One of the things that I have learned while exploring various Shamanic paths and healing traditions of the world is the power of imagination. Most healers will tell you the first step to healing is a desire to be healed and then a confidence in the healing system that is used. One of the most remarkable application of this technique is discussed by Serge Kahili King in his book Instant Healing. In the book, King discusses an event when he was helping the boys in his community with a role playing game, one day the boy who payed the Druid came down with Chicken pox. The boy knew it was going to be weeks before he could get back on the game playfully thought to himself, hey I am the druid, I can heal this. Amazingly enough, the next day the chicken pox was gone and the boy was back with his friends.
This is a remarkable story and is not an isolated event. The moment people give confidence to the healing system being used, the effect is intensified. Take a look at hypnosis, how is it that when a hypnotist hypnotizes you, you are easily hypnotized and can be healed and that doesn’t happen when you try to hypnotize yourself! The answer is that you see the hypnotist as an authority so the hypnosis done by the hypnotist has more of your confidence than any hypnotic healing you undertake yourself.
Now, getting back to the question in hand. How is it that the boy healed himself? And, does this mean you too can use characters from your favorite fantasy or sci-fi text to help you with your healing? Absolutely! Infact, I want to share with you one of the many times I have used this technique. This one right before Christmas of 2006:
From my Spiritual Blog
Who has read Harry Potter here? Well, I definitely have. If you have read the story you are aware of the pensieve..it’s basically something used to store your thoughts in so you can come back and look at the memory and the feeling at a later date.
As i explored many shamanic cultures of the world, I could not stop but notice the similarities one of them being the reliance on creativity..people get healed when they imagine a “druid” casting a healing spell at them so on and so forth…
Most healing cultures in the world would agree that the first and the most significant step to healing is 1. the intention to be healed 2. the intention mixed with a confidence of being healed..
Therefore, yes you can use objects from fantasy, sci fi novels to heal yourself. Let me explain:
My pensieve:
the week before Christmas holidays was by far the most stressful week for me. I had 3 exams in as many days, 500+ pages to read, fellowships to reply to, clients to deal with, christmas shopping, emotional ups and downs and so much more. I was constantly being pushed from one topic to another..
Since I was aware of the shamanic traditions and their beliefs in creativity and the story of a boy who got healed by imagining a druid casting a spell at him….it seemed like a perfect time for me to use the pensieve…I could store all the emotions and things that I did not need in the pensieve and I could do that without ignoring them! I could acknowledge them and store them…your heart is basically a pensieve anyway..it stores everything so it was OK, logical and right to think I could use a pensieve (for me at least)… I cannot tell you how much better I felt, I could retreive info on what I needed when I needed without carrying the stress with me 24/7
Anyhow, I got past the week without a mental breakdown, did my best in all I had to do…without any ku (heart) malfunctions either..
So, the next time something seems unachievable..how abou inviting in something from your favorite fantasy text?

Just to let everyone know, we have a tarot class going on. The class started in December and is resuming now after the holidays.
General
Class Start Date: Dec 1
End date : March /whenever (means you can take your time.)
Level: Combined (1/2/3)
Deck: Any. (note: I recommend you go with which one attracts you but if you’re absolutely unsure, get Raider Waite). I’ll be using The New Century Deck but I do have Raider Waite and a couple others.
Where to buy: Buying in person is recommended. Use Amazon if you don’t have a store in the city/town.
Time per day: 10-15 minutes at the least
Time zones: We don’t need time zones for a lot of stuff but if I do mention a time it’ll be MST
Style: Self Paced
I think that’s all…
Upgrade: (What’s new this time compared to last)
First it’s Me instead of Mystic so, it’ll be quite different..although we’ll probably use the same exercises etc since they were good..but expect minor changes here and there.
Another major difference is I won’t be nice to people who sign up and never participate in discussions or pair readings.
Time commitments:
Of course the main concern is time commitments and I hope I have made clear I don’t appreciate people signing up and not making time for the classes.
I am creating time for the class from my busy schedule so I expect you to do the same. There has to be a commitment from both sides. Of course I understand unexpected things show up in life so at that case, please let me know when you expect to be extremely busy, I’ll do the same.
Weekends are for catching up. (I like skiing/snowboarding on weekends so I probably won’t be able to reply to a lot of messages on weekends.)
Holidays: Christmas/long weekends and so on are for spending with family, don’t worry about classes..
And by Long weekends I mean Canadian long weekends cuz well, that’s how I function..but I won’t mind if you take your long weekends off either..
Deadlines: I don’t think we need deadlines, but I do ask you to make sure the partner you’re working with is fine with it…(you’ll be working with someone at most times)
Discussions/Participation:
They are really important in telling me what everyone’s doing and what I need to work on…so…please participate and help each other. We can all learn from each other. I like discussion based classes..we learn a lot by sharing than by doing our own.
Study Groups: We’ll have a class board so you can form your own study groups and discuss and go at your own pace..but please do participate in discussions.
So…I believe that is all…if you’d like to sign up please do so here:
By signing up you accept that you’ve read this message and agree to committ the minimum time requirement and to contact me in case of any problems etc.
